We recently bought this unit to be a second toilet at our seasonal summer cottage - for our guests. We have had the same model installed there for our own use for over 12 years and it has worked perfectly. Easy to use and easy to empty - just once a year first thing each spring before any usage. We recently bought this unit to be a second toilet at our seasonal summer cottage - for our guests. We have had the same model installed there for our own use for over 12 years and it has worked perfectly. Easy to use and easy to empty - just once a year first thing each spring before any usage. By that time the compost from the previous year is indistinguishable from natural soil. It takes 5 minutes to remove it and I just toss it in the woods. Never had any problems. Highly recommended for seasonal use for 2 adults. I have installed the new unit in a small outbuilding beside our guest cabin, with a small sink and it is up and running. Installation is simple. It just plugs into a 120 volt outlet (to run a small fan) and you have to attach the included pvc vent pipe to vent it. No plumbing connections. No septic bed. Excellent quality. Good looking. I've owned my Compact for a few years now and have learned how to maintain it without much effort at all. It was a little bit of a pita at first. The bathroom never has any odor due to the fan. I did install the factory supplied rheostat to reduce fan speed and it helped to reduce noise but it is still apparent. Urine has been a non-issue for us. My Compact is in a barn not in our house to avoid installing a second septic tank. For my house I would install the type that has remote composting tank, but this is much larger than the Compact. The Compact is a nice looking toilet. It is a little higher than standard toilets. We have had no issues with hardware, defects, or any kind of failures.
