I’ll start with noting how “wowed” I was by this toilet, equally attributed to its appearance, ease of installation, and usability & maintenance features. APPEARANCE: It has a very modern stylish look, mostly by the bowl being fully encased, thus not showing the shape of the internal pathway, nor the flange bolts/caps. USABILITY & MAINTENANCE FEATURES: I was pleasingly surprised by the elongated seat having more of a rectangle shape vs. a teardrop shape. I prefer that more open design. But another user is still deciding if one shape is more comfortable than the other. And I am excited by the quick release toilet seat, which is hugely beneficial to achieve the best cleaning around where the seat attaches to the bowl. Given that toilet seats inevitably need to be retightened, this quick release also facilitates easy access to remove the caps over the seat mounting screws and to then retighten the screws. This is my first toilet with a fill valve that had a simplistic lock-unlock lever for adjusting the water fill level. That was really cool to do compared to having to turn a screw to change the water fill level. Now for the flush handle — my brain initially asked, “Why is it pointing backwards?”. Someone apparently studies this stuff and ingeniously made it just right — it’s so much easier using that backwards facing handle. INSTALLATION: The instructions were very accurate and easy to follow! Having hidden flange bolts eliminated needing to find the correct length bolts that the caps would fit over. I replaced the bolts holding the old toilet and did not have to be concerned with the length of the new bolts, nor concerned with using bolts with the break-off joint, nor concerned with buying extra tall bolt caps. I should note that for the user-supplied water supply line, I needed a 12” to replace the 9” on the old toilet, but that was an easy item to pickup along with the new bolts and wax ring. BTW, I found it to be easier to bring the bowl down over the bolts by first laying down two short pieces of 2x4 blocks, then peeking to see if toilet was aligned above the bolts, then removed one block to let down one side of the toilet then the other side. I used the top-mount installation method for the seat, which is appreciatively much easier that tightening from underneath. This thing is super slick! We wanted a “modern” look in our powder room and it really fits the bill. I have received complimentary comments from houseguests on this toilet (about how European it looks) … I would have never expected to get comments on a toilet. The quick release seat is also super slick for cleaning - so easy to just pop it off for a minute to clean. Let’s talk about the “business” of the toilet - the flush. I was skeptical that a 1.28 gallon flush could “take care of business” if you know what I mean, but thus far I have had a clean bowl after a single flush every time. The water seems to do a swirling action around the bowl to keep things spotless. Flush technology has come a long way. My only “complaint” (and thus is super minor) is that the flush handle feels just a little flimsy. I’d like it to feel a little beefier. I will also say that the base of this toilet (it’s a two piece) is incredibly heavy. It’s just as easy to install as any other toilet, but because of the weight you’ll probably want a helper. I can install most other toilet bases by myself. Overall, super happy with this thing. The Grohe Essence Two Piece Right height elogated toilet is as wonderful as a toilet can be. I don't normally get excited about a toilet but I love this one! 1.) It was easy to install. The Grohe Essence Two Piece Right height elogated toilet is as wonderful as a toilet can be. I don't normally get excited about a toilet but I love this one! 1.) It was easy to install. I am not a plumber and I'm a 71 year old woman. I am fairly handy however. Putting it together was simple. Unlike many "off the shelf" toilets, this one comes with all of the "guts" already installed. So I simply had to install the back onto the bowl and then install it onto the existing drain, then hook up the water hose. The instructions were adequate but at one point there are pictures (only) of tape on the floor and tape on the side of the bowl. 2.) Once installed, it is so easy to clean!!! The entire outside of the toilet is smooth. No drain showing like most toilets. There is nothing for dust to stick to. Not even any bolt caps! They are inside the skirting. 3.) Because of it's design it is pretty. Again, it is a toilet which for me is not something to get overly excited about. Ours happens to be in a water closet which makes the way it looks not that important. But if your toilet is not separated by a water closet within the bathroom it is really nice looking. 4) As an "old lady" I love the comfort height toilet!! When I go to sit on it I don't feel like I'm at the gym doing squats. I also like the elgated seat design. 5.) It only took me about 45 minutes in early April, 2022 to remove the existing toilet and install the Essence. 6.) And most important, it functions just like a good toilet should. The flush is excellent while still being a water saver. The flush is also fast and quiet. My only negative comment is that at one point in the instructions, there is a drawing of the toilet bowl and a drawing of a floor with tape showing on the bottom side of the bowl and tape showing on the floor. What the pictures are trying to tell you is to put tape on the floor in the middle of the bolts, and put tape on the side of the bowl. Then match them up. This step enables one to easily get the hole in the bowl over the bolt so that they match up. However, a bit more of an explanation would have been helpful. Also this toilet does not come with a wax ring. That is not a big deal as they are very inexpensive, but nowhere does it tell you that, simply referencing in pictures how to install the ring. It’s built with quality in mind and works much better than our old one ever did. Love how well it flushes wile also using less water. Tank refills quickly and very quietly. It’s built with quality in mind and works much better than our old one ever did. Love how well it flushes wile also using less water. Tank refills quickly and very quietly. Plus it’s much easier to clean than the old style toilets.. Cleaning the outside is a breeze as well. Since we install this one in our main floor restrooms we’ve had several positive comments from our guests. They all loved this Toilet and they are all planning on getting one for their own homes.
