Villeroy & Boch
Villeroy & Boch traces its roots to 1748, when François Boch began a pottery in Lorraine. In 1809, Jean-François Boch established production and headquarters at the former Benedictine abbey in Mettlach, Germany. In 1836, his firm merged with that of Nicolas Villeroy, creating Villeroy & Boch, which evolved from faience and porcelain tableware into industrial ceramic sanitaryware. By the late 19th century it was producing bathroom fixtures, including toilets, and over the 20th century expanded international manufacturing and distribution. The company, now Villeroy & Boch AG, continues to develop toilet ranges and related surface technologies and flushing designs, alongside broader bath and wellness and tableware portfolios. In 2024 it acquired Ideal Standard, significantly enlarging its bathroom business. Headquartered in Mettlach, it operates globally with a sustained focus on ceramic expertise and bathroom fixtures.
