Verdict

The CENTREX2000 is a basic composting toilet that offers an environmentally friendly waste solution with a straightforward round bowl design and floor-mounted installation. While its simplicity may appeal to those seeking a no-frills system, it lacks many modern conveniences such as flushing mechanisms, a heated seat, or bidet functions. The build and visual appeal are modest, reflecting its utilitarian purpose rather than style or advanced features. This model may serve well in settings where waterless waste management is essential, but consumers looking for enhanced comfort or efficiency may find its limited features a drawback.

Seriously, these posted reviews are all fake. We (my wife and I) bought this system 3 years ago for a seasonal cabin in NW Wisconsin. It is designed for <4 adults full time use. It is mounted below grade, outside, 20 feet away from our cabin with a 4-inch conventional PVC sewer line with 1/4" per 1' drop. We have a full size, conventional low water flush toilet connected inside the cabin bathroom just like any regular plumbed house in the United States. My wife and I use it full time 6 months of the year (May to November) with absolutely no (nada, zero, 0) issues (for 3 seasons/years now). I assume it freezes solid in the winter but it is fully thawed and functional by the time we arrive at the cabin in May (that is what Sun-Mar told us would happen and it has not caused any problems to the system). Yes, every 1 to 3 days we go outside and rotate the composter drum handle. Yes, every time we rotate the drum we add 2 cups of composting material. No, there is no smell, even at the unit. No, there are no flies around the unit. Yes, we pee and poop normally like everyone else in the world. Yes, we use regular toilet paper flushed down the toilet. Yes, Sun-Mar told us they do not recommend the full size, conventional low water flush toilet. Yes, Sun-Mar told us the 20 feet sewer run was not recommended. BUT, the whole system works, beautifully, and we do not have a conventional in ground septic system, we save money, natural resources and the environment, all without polluting any lake, river or stream.

Love it!

We've had an 2000NE in our summer home for four years now (it's on an isolated island in the north). We---especially my wife and grandchildren---love having just a small odour-free toilet in the interior washroom. Of course the stinky old outhouse is long-forgotten. The installation was somewhat complex---(a) pouring a levelling concrete pad under the house, (b) running a 4" vent up through two floors and the roof, (c) creating an evaporating mound for the French drain, and (d) running a water line---but well worth it. It certainly was easier than building a new outhouse and pit. When the septic system on our southern acreage eventually fails we'll be replacing it with a Centrex unit.

Sun-Mar composting toilets

We have had one at our cabin since 2002. To keep it working properly, you need to add bulking mix and a microbe mix to aid composting. Sun-Mar says you must use their products but they are hard to find and then you will have to have them sent to you from a dealer somewhere--not available in our city. I do not understand why they think composting enzymes for another brand of composting toilet will not work just as well. The composter works well but getting the additives is a real pain--and extra cost!

Best Investment for Off-Grid Living

My family and I have been using the Sun-Mar Centrex 2000 NE Composting Toilet for the past year, and it has been a game changer for our off-grid lifestyle. It's easy to install and operate, odorless and hygienic. Plus, the compost produced is great for our vegetable garden. Highly recommend!
